How come people stare at the sunset, but normal sun can hurt us?How come you can look at the sunset without hurting your eyes?
When the sun is high in the sky, its light goes through only a few miles of air; however, when the sun is setting, the light goes through many hundreds of miles of air. Most of the light from the sun during sunset is absorbed or reflected by all that air.
Keep in mind that on days when the air is clear, the sun is still too bright to look at directly during sunset. How come you can look at the sunset without hurting your eyes?
because you arent looking at the actual sun, you are looking at its reflection.. or at least the colors that it makes in the sky. looking directly at the sun can hurt your eyes.
